Grove, Oklahoma
Marlene L. Schlatter, age 88, of Grove, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on September 8, 2025, with her two daughters lovingly at her side. Marlene was born on February 19, 1937, in Mound Valley, Kansas, to Charles and Ruby Olmsted. She was raised primarily in Parsons, Kansas, but also attended schools in Kansas City, Kansas, and Baltimore, Maryland, before graduating from Parsons High School. In 1956, Marlene married the love of her life, Lorne Schlatter, and together they built a beautiful life while raising three children, Terry, Roxy, and Rhonda. The family later settled in Independence, Kansas, in 1969, where Marlene resided for many years before moving to Grove, Oklahoma, five years ago to be with her daughters. Marlene will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her loving and caring heart, and her beautiful smile that could light up any room. She had a precious personality and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Before moving to Grove, she cherished spending time with her friends—laughing, dining out, shopping, and enjoying regular ice cream gatherings at Braum’s. She was a faithful and active member of the Presbyterian Church and participated in community organizations including P.E.O. and the local Chamber of Commerce. She found joy in serving others through Meals on Wheels, visiting nursing homes, and creating personalized cards filled with encouragement. Marlene also loved her daily devotions, prayer time, and journaling, which reflected her deep faith and gratitude. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her daughters—whether enjoying daily lunches, attending movies and Broadway musicals, shopping, or simply being together. She leaves behind cherished memories of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Marlene is survived by her daughters Roxy Schlatter and Rhonda Schlatter, bonus daughter Shari Murphree, bonus grandsons Christian, Alex, and Joshua Wellman, and dear friends Marie White and Mary Pollock. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruby Olmsted, her beloved son Terry Schlatter, and her husband Lorne Schlatter. A Visitation will be held Friday, September 12, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Webb & Rodrick Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Service will follow on Saturday, September 13, at 11:00 AM at the Independence Country Club, 2824 Country Club Circle, Independence, Kansas with interment immediately afterward at Mount Hope Cemetery.
