Gospel for God’s Children by Linda Shields:

“The Lord’s Prayer”

Every Sunday, we say the Lord's Prayer in the service.   It is important that we learn these words taught to us by Jesus himself, because he teaches us that God is our Father, he is holy and to be honored.  He teaches us that what is God's will is to be our will,  and that we can depend on God.

Jesus taught that we should "go away by ourselves, shut the door behind us and pray to God secretly.  Then your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you.” (Matthew 6: 6).

"Your Father knows exactly what you have need of even before you ask!  (Matthew 6: 8b)

  Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,  may your name be honored.   May your Kingdom come soon.  May your will become here on earth,  just as in heaven.   Give us our food for today, and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.   And don't let us yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.  For yours is the Kingdom,  the power and the glory forever,  Amen
(Matthew 6: 9-13)

Jesus said,  "If you forgive those who sin against you,  your heavenly Father will forgive you.   But if you  refuse to forgive others,  your Father will not forgive your sins.”   (Matthew 6: 14-15).

It is important to forgive those who have hurt us,  just as Jesus forgave those who crucified him.   He stated, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do. " (Luke 23: 34)

Let us learn the Lord's Prayer as our model prayer, so we know how to pray reverently to our heavenly Father everyday,  and let us tell Jesus thank-you for teaching us how to  pray and the importance of forgiveness.

Dear Jesus,  thank you for teaching us how to pray to our Father God.  Thank you for loving us and taking care of our needs.  In your name we pray,  Amen

  God Bless
