  WORSHIP GUIDE
Day of Pentecost
May 31, 2020

The links listed in this guide will not be available to view until Saturday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m.

Call to Worship: The peace of God be with you today. Receive with joy the gift of the Holy Spirit. We feel the winds of God blowing among us. We sense the tongues of fire empowering us. How amazing is the power God gives us. How manifold are the works of our Creator. The breath of God fills us with confidence. The Spirit creates new life within and among us. God calls us to be dreamers and prophets. God gives us a vision for a world of peace. May the glory of God endure forever. We will sing praise to God as long as we live.

Our first hymn is “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness”, #291 in our hymnal.  We will sing verses 1 & 2 (click link for
music
https://youtu.be/Ueq7YT7rv6g )

Call to Confession: We can say the words that come with Pentecost:  spirit, wind, fire.  We can claim an interest in knowing the God of all creation.  But how much time have we devoted to this quest?  How open are we to God’s unpredictable summons and direction?

We will first recite the Prayer of Confession followed by a moment of silent prayers of confession.  Let
us pray…
O God, we are frightened by strange tongues and people out of control.  We want to manage our own lives and assure our own safety.  We are afraid that you will ask more of us than we are willing to risk.  We do not want others to consider us strange or fanatical.  We are skeptical of dreams and visions.  We cannot trust some people you ask us to love.  We want to believe, but how can we know that you are more than our collective imagination, a hope we cling to in our despair?  Help us, God.

 (Silent Prayers of Confession)

Amen

Assurance of Pardon: God comes unexpectedly to those willing to wait and listen and trust.  The Spirit amazes and astonishes even those who wait expectantly.  There is more to life than the things we can see – and more in the things we see than our eyes can discern.  So, too, God is more than we can know or think.  Even now, the Holy Spirit is resting on you and on this family of God’s people.  We are a forgiven people....LET US SING GLORY TO GOD!

The Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.  As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Prayer for illumination: Guide us, O God, by your Word and Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover your peace, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Our Gospel Lesson is from John 20:19-23 in your Bible. We ask that you read this passage at this time.

Good Morning and Thank you for joining us for our Sunday Worship Services. What I will post here is a modified version of the Worship Guide I mail out and send to our congregation. The links posted will not be available until Saturday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m.

us pray…
Living God, we confess that our faith is sometimes weak, our love for others can be
faint, our prayers are often timid, and our gratitude is frequently unconvincing.  When we stand looking
toward heaven, yet feel far from you, you draw near in mercy to forgive us, and fill us with your power, through the grace of Jesus, our resurrected Savior.  (Silent Prayers of Confession) Amen

Now recite the Assurance of Pardon: Sisters and brothers, as Christ is our witness, God’s power to pardon is immeasurable.  Therefore, proclaim this good news to the ends of the earth: through the mercy of Christ, our sins are forgiven...LET US SING GLORY TO GOD! Now sing The Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

During our normal Worship time, we would have Time for God’s Children. It can be found under the tab for Sunday School.

Now please recite our Prayer for illumination: Come Holy Spirit, open our minds to see the power of Scripture to give life; enlighten our hearts that we might see Christ in all whom we meet; in the name of the one, holy, and living God, to whom we give all glory.  Amen.

Sunday, May 3, 2020 - 4th Sunday of Easter

Good Morning Everyone,

It’s hard to believe it’s a new month, but the day I finished putting this together, it was May 1st. With May we get beautiful weather one minute and stormy weather the next, which we have already seen!  I love springtime in Kansas!  It’s the one season my daughter, who lives in Florida, misses.  She loved our spring storms!

We hope everyone is doing well, staying safe, and able to enjoy the beauty God is surrounding us with in His
flowers, the birds, and trees.

As we’ve been doing these past few weeks, Sunday services are again on-line.  Our members receive a worship guide each week, but we are not able to attach it to our website. So instead, we like to share some of our worship service with you by this message. Below you will find links for the hymns, Pastor’s short announcements, scripture reading and sermon, and a special solo by Larry Annable.  We hope you are enjoying these tapings, and that you feel the need to share them with your friends and family.  That’s the nice thing about YouTube, once they are downloaded and open for viewing, the videos will remain there until we take them down.  You are not limited on your views or how many times you share them!  Remember, we also share the links on our Facebook page. If you are not a member of FPC, but would like to receive our worship guide by e-mail, please contact our office staff on our “contact” link. We would be happy to send out the guide each Friday to you.

We pray you have an excellent and blessed May, and we pray we will be all together soon.
